The Connetquot River State Park Preserve has many trail options. The main trail is very wide, clearly marked and somewhat sandy but not too soft. There are other more narrow trails that occasionally have exposed roots and can be a bit muddy in spots. All trails are very flat and passable. A good pair of hiking shoes or sneakers will suffice. The main trail is also used for horseback riding. Although I saw hoof prints, I never saw any horses. You will see many types of water fowl as there are many streams and a huge lake. You will also see fisherman fishing for trout, often wading in the waters. Unfortunately, no pets are allowed. All-in-all, the Connetquot River State Park provides a 9.8 mile loop on these historic sports club grounds.
